Real Media Artefact, Fornt Cover - Q Magazine (3)

Q magazine is a music magazine for an audience of an older generation who have an interest in indie, rock and alternative music, but prefer to read it in a classier way. The main ways i have recongnised that this is the case is because in each the pull quote on the front of the magazine of Brandon Flowers saying "I'm disgusted!" thi drags the reader in as they want to know what the hardcore rockstar is so disgusted with. this is very clever technique to attract the reader and will get people to buy the magazine. The magazine cover also has a lot of masculine colours to support its masculine audience. For example the white 'Q' on a red background shows that the magazine has been directed at a male audience as the colour red is associated with violence which is more masculine and a strong colour. The red pug just below Brandon Flowers's chin advertises another band called "Kaiser Cheifs" an indie rock band that are well known nationally, this would attract consumers to buy the magazine as they could have an interest in this bands music and will want to read information on the bands new album.
Brandon Flowers the lead singer of The Killers is positioned on the front of the magazine at a slight angle making eye contact with the camera, he is also pointing his finger at the camera. In society today pointing at people is considered rude however the lead singer here seems to be getting away with the fact that he is posing like a bad boy to go with the pull quote below that reads "I am Disgusted". The effect of having a mid long shot of the lead singer shows that lead singer of the band is most important as he is only representing the band by being on his own on the front cover, this could suggest that the interview is based around Brandon Flowers.
The font that is used on the magazine is all relatively the same as the font is straight with pointed corners and is very bold. the connotations of having the text like this shows that the magazine may be appealing to men as the strong lines and boldness will associate them with the magazine as curly and wavy font would be more for females.
The language used on the front of the Q magazine cover is used to entice the reader into buying the magazine, with the use of the words "Free" and "Plus!" encourage people to buy it as they will think that they are getting more for there money when they buy the magazine.
